welcome
Welcome to the North-West Highlands of Scotland. Straddling the Wester Ross - Sutherland border, this is a rich and diverse wild land of mountains, rivers, burns and lochs. Home to the arctic char, sea trout, elusive Atlantic salmon and jewel-like wild brown trout.
This remarkable corner of the Highland landscape is dominated by the hills of Coigach and Assynt and offers some exceptional fishing in iconic locations.

FISHING
Perfectly positioned in Elphin, a small village on the A835 between Ullapool, Lochinver and Achiltibuie, I'm on the NC500 route. With the renowned lochs of Cam, Veyatie and Urigill on my doorstep, access to great fishing in this area couldn’t be easier. I can offer a fantastic range of sport for all abilities and ages.
There are hundreds of lochs in Coigach and Assynt. They are teeming, fertile environments with a huge variety of plants and wildlife, dramatic vistas and rich geology.
The wild brown trout you can expect to catch within these waters are spirited and beautiful fish. There are ferrox monsters lurking in many of the lochs. However, just under 1/2 a lb is the average size for this area.
Your experience can be as adventurous or sedate as you’d like to make it. However, for a little effort there can be rewards. The deeper you venture the more wildlife you're likely to encounter, and some of the more remote lochs and burns hold better specimens simply because they are fished so infrequently.
There are a number of fabulous west coast spate rivers within touching distance. These are exciting stretches of water when the conditions are right. With salmon and sea trout running throughout the season that elusive bar of silver is within reach.

Saltwater Flyfishing
I have launched a crowdfunder to finance a boat for saltwater flyfishing from Ullapool’s new harbour development. I hope that this boat will be operating for the 2025 fishing season.
Interested guests can visit my crowdfunding page where there are a number of opportunities to help support this project, including advance bookings on saltwater flyfishing trips from a boat and the chance to name one of my successful saltwater flies.
Do visit the campaign page and get in touch at info@jamescurley.org if you want to find out more.
